We in the Presentation Secondary School, Galway,
are a Catholic school community which encourages and fosters
Christian values, promoting a sense of mutual respect, responsibility
and self-esteem in each pupil and member of staff.
We aim to foster, in co-operation with parents, a caring school
community in which we strive to develop each dimension of the
pupil: the spiritual, moral, aesthetic, intellectual, physical
and emotional.
A Brief History of the School
- 1815
The Presentation Sisters come to Galway and establish a
convent at Kirwan's Lane.
- 1816
They move to larger premises to accommodate ever-increasing numbers.
- 1819
The Sisters take over the old Protestant Charter School on the
Banks of the West River.
- 1820
First Presentation (Elementary) School established in the West of Ireland.
- 1968
A new Secondary School is built and opened.
- Present
Since their small beginnings in 1815, when the pupil intake was
just thirty, the Presentation Schools have expanded both at Primary
and Secondary level and have moulded the lives of thousands of young
people from every part of Galway City and beyond.
It is a proud tradition and one we are priviliged to carry on. While keeping
abreast of the many varied and exciting changes in education in
today's world, the Christian and cultural values of those early days will
never change and will continue to be fostered in each
new generation of "Pres" students.
