Junior Achievement is a non-profit making organisation dedicated to linking Schools and the workplace.
We provide an opportunity for young people to participate in a range of educational programmes designed
to help them understand the world of work.

MINI COMPANY PROGRAMME WITH HEWLETT PACKARD

This year Owen Diviney Hewlett Packard has worked with Students in
Presentation Secondary School on the “Company Programme
”.
The company programme allows the girls to set up their own company, guided by Owen.
Key skills developed include Communication, Problem Solving, Team Building,
Basic Financial Accounting, Time Management and Planning.
The school company is entered in the Regional Final of thiscompetition in Sligo IT.
In the past we have scooped many of the prizes on offer.

INTERVIEW PREPARATION

Helen Murray of Hewlett Packard teaches the “Success Skills” programme in the school.
Success Skills
focuses on developing students' interpersonal effectiveness.
Topics include Team Building, Public Speaking, Effective Communication, Career Exploration,
Curriculum Vitae Preparation and Interview Techniques.
On completion of this programme our students gain excellent experience in the whole area of
preparation for job interviews and how to present themselves effectively in the workplace.

LCVP

The Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP)is designed as an add-on to the existing
Leaving Certificate, to prepare students for the real world.

The emphasis is on learning by doing.
Students:

  • set up and run their own projects
  • investigate aspects of their local community
  • carry out career investigation with job shadowing
  • prepare for the world of work:
  • curriculum vitae
  • job search skills
  • interview techniques

This is a post- Leaving Cert Course in Information Technology. It is recognised by FETAC (Further Education & Training Awards).
Holders of Fetac Level 5 Award may progress to designated courses at Institutes of Technology
