Presentation Secondary School offers the following supports to ensure that students are happy and thus
can strive towards excellence.

Student Care Programme
Initial Induction
This is a programme that is designed for new first year students. For the first days in school, First Year students are introduced to their principal,
deputy-principal, class tutors, academic monitor,
year head, guidance counsellor, subject teachers ,
to each other and also to their “big sisters”.
Class Tutor
Each class has one tutor who has overall responsibility for the
welfare and care of each student
in the class. This teacher makes a special effort to get to know all pupils and endeavours to ensure that students feel secure in talking to their tutor about any issues of concern to them.
‘Big Sister’
Our fifth year students volunteer annually to look after incoming first years and to help them in the transition from primary to secondary school. A fifth year student meets a group of four first years on their first day in school and thereafter they meet on a regular basis.. Training in befriending and being a ‘Big Sister’ is provided to fifth years by the Health Service Executive.

Student Council
Our school has a student
council composed of elected representatives from every class. Through this council the voices
of our students are heard and
the council also assists in
various important activities and roles in our school.

Anti-Bullying Monitor
A vigilant anti-bullying approach is adopted in our school. An anonymous questionnaire is distributed once a month to all students. These questionnaires are then monitored by a teacher who then reports to the Principal. This helps keep students focused on positive behaviour.

Promoting Academic Excellence

Academic Performance Monitor
All student year groups have a particular teacher who is charged with the responsibility of monitoring and encouraging the academic
progress and performance of all students. We are very supportive of
our students’ academic progress. The overall aim is to ensure that each student strives to reach her potential.

Parental and Student Involvement
Parental and Student Involvement is actively encouraged in Presentation Secondary School. We value parents as significant partners in the education of their children and we work in close
co-operation with parents, through our Parents’ Council. Through this partnership we work towards a common aim: an excellent future for
all our pupils.

Study and Homework Skills Programme
New First Year students in our
school are helped in the transition from primary to secondary school through a focused programme during the first three months in our school. Each different subject teacher
advises and teaches the pupils on how best to do homework and organize learning in the whole new range of subjects that pupils take on at second level.

Supervised Study
All students are encouraged to join our supervised study arrangement. Study sessions occur every evening for two hours after school and are always supervised by a teacher who is available to answer any difficulties emerging from homework and study.

Career Guidance

Our school has a full time Career Guidance Counsellor, Mr. Anthony Finneran, who provides important information and assists students in making choices about further study.
Our Guidance Counsellor meets all first year students on a one-to-one basis to help students make good choices about which subjects to choose for second year.
Aptitude Tests are given to third year students with the aim of helping each student make informed choices about which subjects to choose for senior cycle. The results of these aptitude tests are given during an individual consultation with the Guidance Counsellor.

Past pupils are actively involved in careers information. During the year our past pupils are invited back to and give talks on the various university and college courses they are following.
The school is linked to ACCESS Programmes in Universities & Institutes of Technology.

In January of each year a School Careers Fair is organised .Recent past pupils are available on the day to inform and advise Senior Students on course choices. Our students find this is of great benefit before making final choices on their CAO forms as they prepare to move ahead to university and college life.
